Understanding your maintenance schedule helps you plan ahead and protects your investment. At Ackerman Toyota’s Service Department, we can help you with just this. Here's what you need to know about maintaining your Toyota RAV4 throughout its lifecycle in and beyond St. Louis.

The First Year: 5,000 to 10,000 Miles

Your first service visit typically occurs around 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. During this appointment, our technicians perform an oil and filter change, rotate your tires, and conduct a multi-point inspection. We check fluid levels, examine brake components, and inspect the air filter. This early visit allows us to catch any issues while your vehicle is still new. At 10,000 miles, you'll return for another oil change and tire rotation. We continue monitoring your RAV4's systems and address any concerns you've noticed during your first months of ownership.

Building the Foundation: 15,000 to 30,000 Miles

The 15,000-mile service includes your standard oil change and tire rotation. We also inspect your cabin air filter, which often needs replacement around this time depending on your driving conditions. If you frequently drive on dusty roads or in heavy traffic, this filter may require more frequent attention. At 20,000 miles, the routine continues with oil service and tire rotation. Our technicians pay close attention to brake pad wear and tire tread depth, documenting these measurements for future reference. The 25,000-mile appointment follows the same pattern. By 30,000 miles, we recommend a more thorough service. Along with your oil change and tire rotation, we typically replace both the engine air filter and cabin air filter. We inspect your brake fluid and may recommend a flush if needed. This is also when we closely examine your brake pads, as many RAV4 owners begin to see wear indicators around this mileage.

Mid-Life Maintenance: 35,000 to 60,000 Miles

Between 35,000 and 50,000 miles, you'll continue with scheduling service appointments for oil changes and tire rotations every 5,000 miles. We monitor your battery health, inspect belts and hoses, and check your cooling system. The 60,000-mile service represents a significant maintenance interval. In addition to standard oil and tire service, we recommend several important procedures. Brake fluid should be replaced to maintain proper braking performance for your rides along I-70. Many RAV4 models benefit from a transmission fluid inspection and potential service at this point. We replace air filters and conduct a comprehensive inspection of suspension components, steering systems, and drivetrain elements.

Long-Term Care: Beyond 60,000 Miles

After 60,000 miles, the pattern continues with oil changes and tire rotations every 5,000 miles. At 90,000 miles, you'll need another major service similar to your 60,000-mile appointment. This includes brake fluid replacement, air filter changes, and thorough system inspections. If your RAV4 has a timing belt rather than a timing chain, replacement is typically recommended between 90,000 and 100,000 miles. Many newer RAV4 models use timing chains that don't require replacement, but we verify this based on your specific model year. At 120,000 miles and beyond, maintenance intervals remain consistent. We may recommend additional services based on wear patterns we observe during inspections. Spark plugs, coolant, and other fluids have specific replacement intervals that we track in your service records.

Darwin at Ackerman Toyota truly saved a sale for Toyota. This was my first Toyota purchase, and while the process had some frustrations, Darwin truly made the difference and ensured I drove away happy. I served 10 years, reenlisted after 9/11, and was disappointed to learn I didn’t qualify for Toyota’s $500 military discount. It’s not about the money — anyone who signs up for the military gives the government a blank check, including up to their life — but placing restrictions on who counts can feel like a lack of appreciation. Despite this, Darwin stayed patient, worked through the paperwork and financing, and made sure I left with a fair deal. Overall ratings: Darwin 5/5, Ackerman Toyota 4.5/5, Toyota corporate policy 1/5. I’ll be returning for service, and I hope Toyota continues to consider how they support those who have served.

I cannot say enough good things about this dealership! I originally was working with Newbold Toyota where I felt pressured into a deal I really didn't feel comfortable making and that kept asking for more and more money for a down payment that I just didn't have. I came across Ackerman just to see if I could transfer the approval from Newbold to them for a better deal and they did so much more for me than I could have ever expected! I worked with Ryan O'Leary for everything up until signing which his associate Megan handled who was also lovely due to conflicting schedules (no fault of his own, we all have lives to live and I hope his tournament went great!). He was truly the best salesman I have ever dealt with. He explained every feature perfectly, answered every question I had without making me feel dumb for asking, and never did I feel pressured to do anything I did not want to do. Genuinely felt as though I was talking to an old friend and we are even from the same hometown and he had some good stories to share about a mutual friend of ours! I love the service he provided and he even got me into the trim I wanted that the last dealership told me I couldn't get and got me into it WITHOUT a cosigner! His team fought hard for me to finance and even gave me more for my trade than initially planned so I could get into the vehicle I truly wanted and kept my payments in the budget I wanted. Ryan O’Leary at Ackerman Toyota is the BEST! We were on a waitlist with another dealership for 7 months for our hybrid Highlander. He got us a brand new one in 7 weeks!! I have no idea what magic he worked, but it felt like a miracle. He reached out as soon as it was being manufactured, and we got to add our own upgrades.
