How does the Toyota Safety Sense Pre-Collision System work?

The Toyota Pre-Collision System now comes standard on most new Toyota models as part of the Toyota Safety Sense active safety bundle. But, just how does the system work? Front facing exterior cameras continuously scan the road ahead for potential hazards. When a hazard is detected, the system will respond in one of three ways: with audio and visual alerts, with Brake Assist, or with Automatic Emergency Braking depending on the severity of the threat.
