Homemade Mother’s Day Brunch Ideas

Breakfast items decoratively placed on a tableSWEET

The key to any great brunch is a good mix of sweet and savory items. For a stress-free morning, we highly suggest putting together some sweet offerings that can be made and placed on the table in advance. We really love Alton Brown’s recipe for crepes with sweet fillings like Nutella and strawberries or powdered sugar and lemon juice as well as Bon Appetit’s banana bread and Martha Stewart’s blueberry muffins.

For savory offerings, we like to treat mom to something a little more special than the average weekday or weekend breakfast. None of the below options are too hard to put together and they use fresh ingredients assembled with a little more flair than a usual breakfast or lunch offering.

We encourage you to include your children in your Mother’s Day brunch preparations. Our favorite way to make them a part of the process without added stress on the morning of is to do some baking with them in advance. Set aside time the afternoon before Mother’s Day and get in the kitchen with the kids and whip up an easy batch of muffins or banana bread that can be easily stored until the morning. Other kid-friendly ideas for morning-of preparation are mix and go recipes for pancakes and smoothies.

Not a chef? No problem! Take mom out for brunch instead at a local St. Louis brunch spot. Our favorites include Cielo Restaurant and Bar, Weber Grill, and Vin de Set. Just make sure to call ahead for reservations because restaurants are likely to be busy on Mother’s Day.
