If you do plan to do a lot of hauling for family adventures in the summertime with boats and campers, it’s important that you know the weights of the items you plan to haul and factor those weights, along with the weights of your passengers and extra gear, into your Toyota pickup truck buying decisions.

The 2018 Tundra is the full-size pickup truck offering from Toyota and will offer more towing capabilities than the Tacoma. The 2018 Toyota Tundra has a max towing capacity of 10,200 pounds* when properly equipped. In comparison, the 2018 Toyota Tacoma offers a max towing capacity of 6,800 pounds* when properly equipped.

Max Payload

Max payload refers to how much weight a pickup truck can hold in its cabin and bed. Your payload weight should be factored in to your towing weight to determine if your Toyota pickup truck offers the capability to tow a desired item. Once again, the full-size Toyota Tundra offers a little bit higher of a max payload capacity with 1,730 pounds** compared to the max payload capacity of 1,440 pounds** on the 2018 Toyota Tacoma.

*Before towing, confirm your vehicle and trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. Do not exceed any Weight Ratings and follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual. The maximum you can tow depends on base curb weight plus the total weight of any cargo, occupants, and added vehicle equipment. “Added vehicle equipment” includes additional standard/optional equipment and accessories added by the manufacturer, dealers, and/or vehicle owners. The only way to be certain of your vehicle’s exact curb weight is to weigh your vehicle without passengers or cargo.
